While the V-hull has certainly demonstrated its usefulness viz those not V-hulled for under-the-road-IED mitigation, Iraq showed that EFPs directed towards the sides of vehicles were significant deadly threats. Thus while the V-hull is probably now a baseline sensibility, crude IEDs, not to mention factory manufactured munitions such as RPGs and heavy machine gun ammunition are still a low tech and proliferate threat. How are vehicle designs evolving to mitigate the side shots?

What about a real light tank like the German Wiesel 1/2? Weight is less than 5 t.
Two smaller Wiesel 1 with 20 mm cannon or TOW fit inside one CH-53.

Maybe two Wiesel 2 with 120mm mortar will fit inside one CH-53K.
The mortar system is capable of direct fire and with Strix/XM395 mortar rounds close air support might be redundant.
